Mel first learned to play poker from his father when he was fourteen years old. Mel used to be a Vidal Sassoon hairdresser, and since he has retired from that profession he competes on the poker tournament circuit. Mel has two World Series of Poker bracelets to his credit and both of his championships are in seven-card stud (1989, 1997). He also finished third to Stu Ungar in the 1997 Main Event. Mel has been in the money at the World Championships more than 34 times throughout his impressive career at the tables. Mel believes that the key skills to making a great tournament player are being patient and changing gears at the tables. Mel is currently a tournament director for the World Poker Championships in Dublin, Ireland. His dream job is to someday own his own casino.
