In 1978, Men escaped from his harsh surroundings by boat and made his way to the United States, straight to L.A. The master started playing poker in 1985 when he and a friend took a short trip to Vegas. He lost almost everything he took with him on that trip. He walked away, studied the game for a week, and returned. He won everything back that he lost, and more. He then decided to make poker his career in 1990. He received the nickname "The Master", because he coaches Viatnamese students the intricacies of poker. His big break came in 1996 when he won four bracelets at the World Series of Poker.
