Phil was first exposed to big bet poker in 1999 in New York City at an "underground" club and has adapted to this style of game relatively quick. Phil likes the fact that tournament poker involves competition, patience and developing various strategies during different times of the tournament. Phil is a former sports bet broker and is a part time stock market speculator and real estate investor. One of Phil's main hobbies is the study of higher-order thinking. He keeps up to date on research in the area of higher-order mental capacities. He uses his knowledge in this area to establish psychic connections with his playing competitors. One of his main techniques is called "lucid dreaming". This allows him to replay hands over and over in these dreams so as to pick up on the other players' conscious or subconscious tells. This is an attribute that he feels gives him an edge over his competitors at the poker table. Phil can be seen regularly at all the major poker events and has most recently become the host of E! Hollywood Hold'em. He is one of the major personalities on the poker scene today.
