Robert first started playing poker while he was an undergraduate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After his graduation in 1983, he got a job as an investment banker in Brooklyn, New York and worked there for a number of years before he began to enter poker tournaments. Robert also used to build trading systems on Wall Street. Robert is most recognized for winning the 2002 World Series of Poker Main Event. His playing style is very mechanical and he says his most respected poker player is David Sklansky.
