$10,000 Main Event: Jacobs shoots himself in the foot

Hamid Dastmalchi   Tom Jacobs
Eight of Hearts Four of Clubs VS Jack of Diamonds Seven of Spades
The Flop The Turn The River
Jack of Hearts Five of Diamonds Seven of Diamonds Six of Hearts Eight of Clubs

The Result

In the final hand of the 92 Main Event, Hammid Dastmalchi was holding the 8Hearts4Clubs and his heads-up opponent Tom Jacobs was holding JDiamonds7Spades. The players waited for the flop and it showed JHearts5Diamonds7Diamonds. This gave Jacobs the top two pair and Dastmalchi had a gut-shot straight draw. Jacobs then under-bets his hand in an attempt to get Dastmalchi into the pot. It took awhile, but Dastmalchi eventually called. The turn brought the 6Hearts and Dastmalchi is now holding the nuts. Dastmalchi then calmly checks to Jacobs and Jacobs moves all-in. Dastmalchi reaches for his chips immediately and puts them right next to Tom Jacobs' chips. The river card is all that is left and it shows the 8Clubs making Hammid Dastmalchi the champion.

analysis

This hand shows the danger of slow playing any hand. Although Jacobs needed to gamble and the rewards he could have got from underbetting the pot had the possibilities of being huge.
