Legendary Poker Hands

Texas Holdem No-Limit WSOP 1994

$10,000 Main Event: One Sweet Kicker

Russ Hamilton   Hugh Vincent
King of Spades Eight of Hearts VS Eight of Clubs Five of Hearts
The Flop The Turn The River
Eight of Spades Two of Spades Six of Diamonds Ten of Clubs Jack of Spades

The Result

In this the final hand of the '94 WSOP, Hugh Vincent was holding onto the 8Clubs5Hearts and he decided to limp in. Russ Hamilton was holding the KSpades8Hearts and he checked. The flop showed 8Spades2Spades6Diamonds, which presented both players with the top pair, however Hamilton was holding onto the higher kicker. Hamilton was first to act and he checked, Vincent then came in with a $100,000 bet and Hamilton pulls an all-in over-the-top with his $750,000 in chips. Vincent pondered the decision but he eventually would call and when he did he knew he was drawing for two pair and all he had were three outs. The turn showed the 10Clubs and the river showed the JSpades, which did little to help Vincent. Russ Hamilton took home the title and the sweet $1 million prize.

analysis

Hugh Vincent made the mistake of calling Hamilton's bet as he had no kicker with his pair. He was not pot committed and he would only be able to beat a bluff.
