Legendary Poker Hands

Texas Holdem No-Limit WSOP 1996

$10,000 Main Event: Too Much Hope for the Middle Pair

Huck Seed   Van Horn
Nine of Diamonds Eight of Diamonds VS King of Clubs Eight of Clubs
The Flop The Turn The River
Nine of Hearts Eight of Hearts Four of Clubs Ace of Clubs Three of Spades

The Result

In this final hand Van Horn was the first to act and he raised with the KClubs8Clubs. Huck was holding 9Diamonds8Diamonds and he called. The flop came 9Hearts8Hearts4Clubs, which gave Van Horn a middle pair with an overcard and Huck Seed had top two pair. Seed was first to act and he decided to bet out on the flop, Van Horn then raised Seeds' bet. Huck Seed then re-raised Van Horn to put him all-in. Van Horn decided to call and gamble. The turn card was the AClubs which gave Van Horn a nut flush draw. The river was next and the 3Spades appeared which did nothing for Van Horn making Huck Seed the World Champion.

analysis

Van Horn probably should have just called Seed on the flop or raise an amount that he would feel comfortable getting away from if Huck Seed called. Therefore, Van Horn played a little too aggressive and it cost him the chance to become the World Champion.
