Legendary Poker Hands

Texas Holdem No-Limit WSOP 1999

$10,000 Main Event: Little Pockets

Noel Furlong   Alan Goehring
Five of Clubs Five of Diamonds VS Six of Hearts Six of Clubs
The Flop The Turn The River
Queen of Spades Queen of Clubs Five of Spades Two of Spades Eight of Spades

The Result

When this final hand was played Noel Furlong was in the small blind holding pocket fives (5Clubs5Diamonds) and he decided to limp in. Alan Goehring was the big blind and he checked holding pocket sixes (6Hearts6Clubs). The boys went to the flop and it came QSpadesQClubs5Spades and both players checked. Next was the turn card and the 2Spades appeared. Alan Goehring was next to play and he checked, Furlong decided to bet $150,000. Goehring decided to raise $300,000 and Furlong quickly moved all-in. Goehring called and waited for some help on the river. The river produced no help for Goehring and Noel Furlong became the World Champion.

analysis

An opportunity for Goehring to raise pre-flop was there but he didn't take it. Either way, Furlong probably would have called, and he probably would have called an all-in if Goehring decided to make that move.
